A customer writes:
I am modding a speak and spell with one of your kits. I understand that the diode needs connected to between the positive terminal and the wire, but where exactly does the cathode go? It says to the midispeak supply line, but what do you mean by that?
The diode (described in the step 8 of the install instructions (http://highlyliquid.com/kits/midispeak/install-rom.html)) should be placed like this:
Positive Battery Terminal ---|>|--- MIDISpeak "+" Terminal
...the reason for this: After the MIDISpeak was designed, it was discovered that in some cases, very fresh batteries would supply a voltage that caused the MIDISpeak to malfunction. The diode creates a voltage drop of around 0.6V, which eliminates the problem.
