Default question about power

I've got my midispeak installed and it works well for quite a while but it occassionally locks up. it works fine again once turned off and on again, so I'm assuming its a power issue. I dont want to run off a wall wart as I want it to stay as portable as possible, so I was thinking of installing a 9 volt battery with a voltage regulator to bring it down to 6v. can anyone think of any reason this wouldnt be a good idea?

I think that approach would work. There's no reason not to bring it all the way down to 5V, if you happen to have a 7805 on hand.
