Default MPC Music Percussion Computer Midi Mod

(PROGRESS. SCROLL DOWN LAST POSTS)

I'm finishing up inside my MPC Music Percussion Computer. Disregard earlier statements! I have found +V gate / trigger contacts in the MPC!

Sean,

This thread may be useful:

http://forum.highlyliquid.com/showthread.php?t=3

The diagrams show how to use an NPN transistor with the MD24 output. The collector of the NPN transistor is "pulled down" to the same voltage as the emitter when the MD24 output is activated.

Remove the coil and protection diode from the circuit and replace them with the trigger input to the MPC.

If you connect the emitter of the transistor in the circuit to -1V instead of ground, the collector should work as a trigger source. (there is a non-zero voltage across the two, so something closer to -2V at the emitter might work better)

Does that make sense? Let me know.

As for velocity sensitivity, there may be a chance that forthcoming PWM-from velocity output from the MD24 will provide that functionality. (On the feature list for new MD24 firmware.)

Update!

I've got the positive voltage contacts needed for the voices. The only problem i'm having is proper note triggering or double triggering. It's ok if they are really short pulses but not possible during standard sequencing. I have to edit them down to 1/128 or something. Isn't there a method to change the trigger duration? And, please tell me i can still have some function as gates (high hats, cymbals & clap)

Hi Sean,

A combination of fixed-length output pulses and regular gate-duration pulses will be possible with the forthcoming firmware update.

Until then, firmware version 1.4 allows a global pulse-length setting. (Which I see you have already found.)

MD24 powered from 9V contact on the MPC.

5V logic outs > resistor > trigger points on the MPC.
resistor values: 100K to kick / snare and 4.7K the rest of the voices.

RED - power
BLACK - ground
YELLOW - triggers

Any way of getting those photos reposted? They seem to have disappeared. Looking to do my own MPC-1 and they'd really help.

Thanks

Brian
