What are your DIP switch settings? What are you using to send MIDI? On what channel are you sending MIDI?

Please note that any changes to DIP switch settings will only take effect when the UMR has been turned off, then on again.

Don't forget to double-, then triple-check your MIDI wiring.

Let me know and we'll get things working.

For the DIP switch I've tried 1-4 and I am using a Elektron Machinedrum (MIDI channel 1-4)

I've gone through all the wiring and even unsolder the wire's from the rapman and re-soldered them...still getting nothing.

Like I said the power LED is fine and the other one powers on for a second or two when powering up.

Ok...please look at SW1 and SW2 and report the current position of all switches, starting with position 1. For example, if all switches in both SW1 and SW2 are "off", then write:

SW1: off, off, off, off, off, off, off, off
SW2: off, off, off, off

Ok, that part sounds good. We just need to verify the DIP switch settings, and then make sure the MIDI stuff is all ironed out.

Ok. Keep your SW1 settings as is. Keep the SW2 settings all "off". For the purposes of troubleshooting, do not change them.

Make sure your MIDI controller is set to send on MIDI Channel 1.

What MIDI note #s are you sending to the rapman?

Also, do you have a PC with a MIDI interface? We can use it to help with the troubleshooting.

-SW1 and SW2....check!

-MIDI channel 1....check!

-As for midi note's,I am using a drum machine...not sure what note's.

-Audio interface is a Edirol FA-101 (midi in and out)

P.S. sorry for the late reply,I've been out of town for the last week or so.

You'll need to consult the documentation for your drum machine to check which note numbers are being sent, and how to change them. If the MIDI notes are not user-configurable, you'll probably need to find a different MIDI controller to trigger the UMR.

If you have a PC and can download the SendSX program, I'll help you send the correct note messages to make sure that the UMR installation is correct.

A link to SendSX is on this page:

Ok, do you mean that you have SendSX? Make sure you've got the correct MIDI interface selected and use SendSX to send the following bytes to the UMR:

90 30 7F

This should cause a UMR activity indication and play the leftmost note "C" on the Rapman.

Then, you can send these bytes to turn the note off again.

90 30 00

Please let me know if that works or not.

Ok. Your computer has a MIDI Out port, correct?

Connect the MIDI Out on your computer to the MIDI In on the UMR.

Launch the SendSX application.

Use the SendSX "Midi Out" menu to select the correct MIDI interface on your computer.

In the "Midi Out" text window, enter the following:

90 30 7F

Press the "Send (F4)" button to send the data to the UMR.

This should cause a key on the Rapman to activate.

Meech--I see from the other thread that you've got the SK-5 working.

Fake Electronics--let me know if you're still unable to troubleshoot the Rapman...

Default same problem with rapman

Hi,

I wrote the topics on SK10 in this forum about UMR. I unsoldered the kit and putted it now on my rapman as you explain. I have exactly the same problem...

When I turn on the kit, the activity led is on during 2 second then whern it turns off, a note is sustained (it's like when midi note off doesn't arrive in old synth). Are you sure that it's 'high' configuration ?

I tried what you said to fake electronics and nothing happen. I'm sure about my midi config. Also when I play on keyboard : the selected sounds is played with also drums sounds. It's like a conflicts in the matrix...

I'm using mac osx but I can try to find a PC to try to send sysex messages as you said...

So I hope you can help me because it's the second keyboard in your list I'm trying to midify and it's the second time I've got problems. It's a little bit ... boring.

let me know, thank you

Hi Pbb,

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having.

Did you see my response to your SK-10 thread? Perhaps we could have gotten things working...

Hmmm, ok. Can you disconnect each of the UMR connections one-at-a-time to determine which lines are causing the sustained note? There should be one "select" line and one "data" line associated with the note.

If you have a Mac, a program like MIDI Monitor can be used to verify the note numbers being sent by your keyboard. We don't need to send SysEx messages. ("SendSX" was mentioned only because it can be used to monitor MIDI data.)

Your symptom with the Rapman (sustained note) seems to be different than that reported by Fake_Electronics (no MIDI response), so I'm not sure that both of you are experiencing the same issue.

I understand your frustration--I'll do my best to help get things working.
