Default Sqwerl doesn't work for SysEx but MidiTest does

I've been trying to test my midisport 2x2 (NOT the anniversary edition) with SysEx on my Windows 7 64 bit system. No luck, always times out with Sqwerl. I had my friend try his on a Windows XP machine and still no luck. Finally I seem to have gotten SysEx working on a program called MidiTest.exe.
I really want to buy a midiCPU but need to be sure I have a way of programming it first.
Everyone talks about the 2x2 Anniversary edition working, or the regular one working (or not working) on a Mac. Not much feedback on this device working on Windows 7.
My question: Does anyone have concrete proof that the MidiSport 2x2 (regular one) works with the Sqwerl loopback test?

Thanks.

If you are running on Win7 then I would sugest you use Bomes SendSX for communicating with MidiCPU for programming. I use it with all the Midisport devices 2x2,4x4, 4x4 anniversary and 8x8 from Win98, Win2K, Vista and Win7

Thanks for the answer, I will try.
Is it a known issue that Sqwerl could be troublesome with my setup?

Mel (wabbitguy here on the forums) is the developer of Sqwerl, he might have some insight.

I have a MIDISport 4x4 which has been flaky from time to time, but it usually works without any problems. That's with Windows XP and Windows 7.

There is more info about interfaces in this thread:
