Default MIDI for 1978 Yamaha Electone c40 organ

Hello,
I'm pretty new at this but would like to add MIDI output functionality to my 1978 Yamaha electone C40 organ. See image link below.

I have no idea whether this is possible with this organ or how to begin.. what is the first step?

Assuming you are willing, the first step is to gut the organ of its sound-generating circuitry.

After that, you can wire one or more MIDI CPU boards as described in one of the many MIDI CPU organ project threads. Feel free to create a project thread in the MIDI CPU forum if you'd like to discuss further.

Thank you for your reply, John.
Is there a way to have the organ output MIDI whilst still retaining it's original capabilities, ie: keep the sound-generation circuitry intact, just turn the original volume knob or pedal all the way down to use it as a MIDI controller?
Thanks again.

Yes, but you'll have to reverse-engineer the signaling between the controls and the sound generating circuitry, and find a way to feed the control signals to the MIDI CPU in a way that the MIDI CPU can accept them.

Compared to gutting the organ, it will require a lot more work and is likely to involve extra circuitry between the organ and the MIDI CPU. My ability to help you remotely will be pretty limited.

So...it just depends on how much work you'd like to put into the project.
